The Order of the Hallowed Soul
Brief History.
The Order of the Hallowed Soul was founded by the Celestial Paladin Rumin in order to gather together those earth-bound Celestials of a similar nature and serve the people of the Material Plane as they see fit. The Order actively searches for Celestial births in order to protect and train them for the duties they must eventually take up. The Order as a whole does not pay homage to any one deity and allows its members to choose for themselves the god that best serves their ideals, even allowing them the option not to choose a deity at all though it is greatly frowned upon. Due to the militaristic and wrathful nature of the Order, however, most members naturally gravitate toward the teachings of Domorus, The Burning King.
The Order has thus far existed for six centuries and shows no sign of failing. Aloof and secretive, very few know of their existence, and fewer still know of their aims.
Hierarchy:
The Patriarch
Every Celestial in the service of The Order bows down to the Patriarch. The Patriarch is required to be the most intelligent and wise of the Order’s members, which is decided upon by a vote of the Council whenever the current Patriarch – or the Council as a whole - decides that he is no longer fit to lead. The Patriarch has almost always served upon the Council beforehand, and exceptions are very far and few between.
The Council
The Patriarch heads the Council. The Council consists of – besides the Patriarch - eleven of the wisest, most intelligent, and most powerful members in service. All are required to have served the Order for at least fifty years – though again, exceptions have been known on rare occasions - and any member of the Council may veto another member’s rise into the ranks of the Council.
Any member of the Council is able to bring issues to the table, though it is the Patriarch’s responsibility to decide what issues are most pressing and therefore take precedence. Each member holds a vote in any decisions the Council must decide upon, as does the Patriarch.
Commander
The Order prefers to send individual agents when possible, but often groups are required. In these cases, the group is always led by one Commander and one Lieutenant, who takes over upon the death or incapacitation of the Commander.
Lieutenant
Serving under the Commander, the Lieutenant’s roll is to advise the Commander and serve in his place should he perish.
Protectorate
The foot soldiers of the Order, Protectorates are commonly dispatched as single agents, but are also dispatched in groups as necessary, under a commander and a lieutenant.
Champion
Any Paladin in the service of the Order who far exceeds their monumental expectations may be given the additional title of Champion, to serve alongside his current rank. Champion’s are often treated with greater respect even than those who technically outrank them, though it would be considered terribly bad manners for a Champion to presume to order a higher ranking member.
