Chapter One: Canivores

Found among the walking and oft talking are things that would divulge in the consumption of flesh. These creatures are often toothed and clawed with a varacious outlook and built for sprinting, striking, or stalking various types and sized of prey. This can be seen in all habitats, but had you ever considered that in plants too, do things that might devour you reside?

To date I have encountered two breeds, one 'slightly' larger than the other, but both just as hungry and veracious as the previous. The are known as Annatil and Felshade. The Carnivorous Annatil prefer spacious forests and tend to grow beneath the shadow of weeds and plants, preying on insects, small birds, frogs and lizards, and prying fingers. Their heads are prized amongst alchemists for the variety of potions available from the broth they exude when boiled.

The Felshade is so clled for its favored climate of humid forests, always with a canopy which casts the darkest of shadows. It is said to be an evil plant, enfused with the power of a devil. Near invisible in the shadows, it preys on anything small enough to fit in its mouth, which consists of everything from deer, bears, and boars, through to orcs, humans and elves. It is not picky with what it eats, but tends to ignore the smaller vibrations around it; those caused by rats and mice, but in harsher times will take anything from the forest floor. Due to the supposed injection of devilish entities, this plant is oft sought for highly venomous poisons.

As with some other species of plant, mostly the toxic ones, both carnivorous species are brightly coloured in blacks and reds to see off predatory attack from birds or picky alchemists, or attract them, it is not known for certain, but it works very well in the case of the smaller plant, and whilst the other hides in shadow the black helps to mask its presence nicely.

Both creatures will attempt to grasp of their prey with thick, ropey vines, sometimes thorned but often not, and will make one desperate lunge to swipe the creature from its perch, where it will be speared by thousands of spine like hairs, sharp as a spear. The hairs will paralyse the target, if small enough and release an enzyme which will digest them alive in a most painful manner. Best not to get ones hand stuck in the larger plant. Once closed it takes a great deal of effort for a plant to open again; a process which requires either sunlight, or a captured meal.

Carnivorous Annatil
Size Category: Tiny (6-8 inches tall, 2-3 inch circumfrance)
Venom Rating: 0
Threatening: Barely, though can give a nasty nip
Consumption: place in tepid water (cold will destroy the plant and cause it to shrivel) and boil slowly over a twenty minute period. The plant will be gone, though remaining will be a thick, grey ish substance which can be used and combined with various other plants to create a healing agent. Be sure to pick out the teeth, or sieve the contents. May also be used with meat or other combinations as a form of mushroom like broth. Goes well on its own as a soup and can bolster natural immunities slightly.
Harvest: Be sure to wear some form of protection on the fingers. The plants can take chunks of flesh with ease, and will cut to the bone without question, perhaps even through it if you are unlucky. Take a hold of the side of the head and pull upward viciously. If you fail to sever the head, you are likely to recieve a bite, as this plant can piston as it desires on its flexible stem

Carnivorous Felshade
Size Category: Gargantuan(6-8 feet tall, 2-3 fee circumfrance)
Venom Rating: 3 (Fatal, but must be eaten)
Threatening: Can bite a man in half with one bite.
Consumption: Cannot be consumed as part of a meal, however poison can be made from the berries it carries under its mushroom like head. Attain them and crush them down, mix with various other herbs to attain the best effect. This ingredient can be combined with Fetid Deathroots amongst other things to create some of the most potent poisons in the land.
Harvest: Axes are a necessity, as is being as light footed as possible. Lightfoot boots and artifacts that reduce your weight are an added boon, for the lighter you are, the less likely it is to care to eat you, unless the season has been particularly bad. The berries can be knocked off with the axe, but once done, gathering and fleeing must be taken seriously, post haste.
