The first storyline ever contributed to the Ancestral Legacy module was called Masters of Fate. Ran roughly between summer 2001 and winter 2002, the Masters of Fate epoch took three game-time years and was played out by a handful of main- and several secondary and guest characters. By guest characters I mean people that never stayed around long enough to be worth mentioning.

The story concept was basically an introduction to the land of Kymlun and how the three main families of this generation survived the tide of events. These families were the human Scarbo family, facing their own weaknesses and strengths through a hard life's experience, the royal Sirahn dynasty of the late Langorian kingdom whose downfall directly lead to the perishing of the kingdom itself, and the ancient bloodline of the Glaurd'Har caught up in their own sins and between the strife of the younger races.

Main Storylines:

Sirahn - Duplication Crisis
Two Sylestias? New Langoria's seaside kingdom suffers from dire tyranny at the hand of an unknown mage. Sylestia's disappearance and sudden return is suspicious enough in itself, weren't for her unusual behavior it would already pass as strange, this is just too obviously wrong.
Wait, there are two Langorias? Okay, let's get rid of one - Somebody call a dragon.

Sirahn - Arcane Bane
A half-drow half-elven mage called Naster Romian shows up - over ten times. Seems to have made clones not only of Sylestia but himself. This storyline reaches far into the present of Ancestral Legacy - could the mage finally be dead?

Scarbo/Glaurd'Har - Fathers and Sons
Link has lost his family and most of his sanity. Will he survive? Jeslin's mind is to be saved - and Shandalan is the man to do it. Meanwhile he has to deal with his sons Rathaniel and Shanlung not quite being on top of the war situation up north.
Anni's nosyness finally has came in handy. Or has it?

Glaurd'Har - Ancestral Legacy
The northern and southern Ghazakiin kingdoms have been at a standing war eversince the human presence has been eradicated by a haunting presence only known as Doomsinger. What is king T'Haren Glaurd'Har's role in this? Where do the true sins lie? The downfall of King's Haven Baltharen and the return to Night's Haven Balnaruun seems to have solved the issues for now - at a very valuable cost.

Sirahn - Alana and Handok
Legend has it that Langoria's goddess, Alana the Good Mother is not as much a goddess as a greater celestial power. The might of the Dark Fire of the Lord of Terror hunting her skin is very real, however. The threats soon turn to real... and Naster seems to take a major role.

Glaurd'Har - Shathut Nor'Mathar
The forbidden crypt of the north hides secrets the dwarves of the northern Morinsen settlement have been meaning to keep buried. Perhaps it is too late to hide the swarming undead and it is time to take steps - and not baby steps, baby!

The main characters of the first Masters of Fate era were:

(Archer14)
Diana Silvae - A half-elven ranger followed by her faithful companion, the magical wolf Lunis: her purity of heart and sharp wits kept her standing even in dire times against enemies both alive and dead.
Narniel Glaurd'Har - The Archmage's eldest daughter whose numerous losses of a mother, a lover and a part of her own self at the grasp of the human invaders into the western woodlands in her youth have lead her to forfeit a part of herself which she was secretly striving to find - hiding behind her makeup and seductive allure, looking for questions and answers to match.

BeatrixAlexandros
Sylestia Sirahn The runaway elven princess of chaotic alignment has always been a typical damsel in distress. The series of events leading her to run away from family, friends and country have marked her with a black ink in most elven books to date - even though her heroic deeds remain remembered.

(Burningdeath)
Joshua Scarbo - A favourite to all who have met him. A hero bred and born, chosen of the Midnight Dawn, the divine order dedicated to upholding Balance and opposing the northern undead menace. Humble yet strong both in mind and soul, considered the male leading role of all Ancestral Legacy sagas from the start to the birth of his younger children, Gabriel and Raeriel. A veteran human warrior in pursuit of his own fate, slain by the enigmatic drow archmage Drak'ur, and returned to life by divine means with the help of Anni Redriner. His reserved and gentlemanly demeanor has gained him equal respect with some of the greater forces of the land.
Link Alec Scarbo - Joshua's son, the brooding dark hero was raised on a pocket-plane by the Heaven-Blooded paladin Alastor Kedal. His heroic ideals and unnaturally stoic demeanor was derived from an upbringing of eightteen years of being prepared to oppose machines: the golems which hunted his family and meant the death of his mother. The pain the death of both his parents caused him was barely eased by his marriage with the commoner Jeslin Scarbo, and the birth of their daughter, Cardi. A renowned priest of the Midnight Dawn and a master of blades. The most unstable and lonely personality among all the heroes, Link's survival has always been doubted by many, and his deaths - one which was undone by Anni Redriner and one in the later Rivals and Disciples era which was apparently final, were a series of dramatic events many of the older characters will remember.

Chaos_Mind
Lomin Sirahn - Sylestia's ... grandson from the future? The daughter born which nobody ever met has had two sons, Lomin and Skye. Lomin is a wisecracking elven kid with a hero's heart - one to stand up and fight, even if it means his doom.
Colette Bronnel A lotus disciple with a dark secret - will the ditzy blonde save the day?

Diamost
Edwin Strom The good-natured golden half-dragon boy's presence has been contributing greatly - until he disappeared, never to return. His heroic deeds remain untold unless asked for. Draconic youngsters may hear such from their elders such as Sharakuul the gold - Edwin's tutor.

(GLoRToR)
Anni Redriner - Witnessing the horrors of the world from the age of four and living adventure day by day, the young human girl has never been anything short of an icon of survival, persistance and faith. Appointed as main storyline heroine by the community itself and a beloved figure, the slightly rough but nevertheless noble soul carries the world on her shoulders. Adopted by the Glaurd'Har family and the Redriners of Rivenwood, raised by the Midnight Dawn to oppose something by far greater than mere perils of the street, the child has started out on a journey into the realms of the epic - at costs yet unknown at this period of the story.
Glortor'Rai Glaurd'Har To rise and fall - the enigmatic Ancient priest of the Midnight Dawn carries a lethal secret. With Diana Silvae's hand and heart at his grasp and the responsibility over his family, he has defeated his own father and lead his people to unity after centuries of strife and separation. You are the master of your own fate.
Shandalan Glaurd'Har Knowledge is power - he uttered and walked out the door. The Archmage stands a silent vigil over the land - what sins he carries, if any, are yet to be seen. His friendship with Joshua Scarbo has been cherished by both families, and they indeed needed such bonds to survive what was yet to come.
Shaylan Glaurd'Har What the Midnight Dawn means is strongly linked to the youngest daughter of the Archmage. Why she was named Miracle or Mirage is something only the most prepared arcanists may know of.
Celduil the Torn The langorian noble was a childhood love of Sylestia. Returning from the northern battlefields, he might carry the solution to repelling the coming orcish forces.

(Hosthebastard)
Alastor Kedal A friend to the Scarbo family and lover to Anni Redriner, the celestial paladin is a wild card in the eternal game. His presence is felt when required - the warrior's heart, however, lies elsewhere.

(Loreweaver)
Jeslin Scarbo - A commoner, a cobbler, and secretly a rogue, this young woman has had no special qualities or appearance - according to her. Those that have seen her fight her way through curses and lethal pursuit think differently - but may that judgment be of the past now.

Sand Thief
Okami, the Ivory Wanderer A wolf. Wait no, an elf. No, a wolf... wait no, a celestial?! Alright, what the hell is going on? Sylestia has a boyfriend that has fur. Okami turns out to be not a familiar or a very smart animal, but an angelic incarnation to guard Sylestia from what there is to come. Wolf fails. Oh well.
Rithien Redwent A young copper-half-dragon bard, this girl has no problem cracking some skulls while chirping her cheerful bardic tunes. Blessed with a foul temper and a heroic heart, this loudmouth has something greater coming yet.

(TerminatorXI)
Lucas Sirahn Brother to Sylestia, the wise prince of the elven kingdom has perished under the walls when fighting off the coming tides of fiendish orcs, only to be revived by Joshua Scarbo. His loss of royal bonds and eventually a sister have been giving him a hard time. And when he thinks it can't get any worse, Sylestia shows up. Two of them. - Nobody knows which Sylestia is real , not even her...selves.
Rion the Dread One of the main two-faced lowlives of the realm, child murderer and ... Sylestia's lover? Something's wrong there in the head, missy.

Send me a PM if you have questions, if you notice any holes or I've missed somebody important (memory issues), or if you wish to add your own writing about this era - which would be greatly appreciated.
