Back on my old server, there was a RP system that gave "XP gained" messages randomly when players emoted or even spoke. It was based on how much text was typed, and mostly random. From what I gathered the aloted XP gained was anywhere from 5-10 on a regular tier, and 15-25 on a high tier.
It gave a bit of initiative to always be playing, trying to emote, etc...
I wouldn't mind seeing a system like that here.
As for dungeoning XP, I'd say possibly lower the xp gain as it is now by half, and perhaps implement a system that calculates a respawn rate...say every 5 to 10 minutes instead of just upon next entry to the area.
As for CAPPING xp gain, I'm not entirely against it, but it's not exactly what I want as a player. I enjoy making heroic, anti-heroic or villian characters that develop in multiple ways: Through experiences with others, defining struggle being introverted or extroverted, and completed quests.
I would LOVE to take a small group dungeoning to an area with high difficulty and gain 100 xp per kill instead of 500-600xp, yet never have to WORRY about overprogressing or attaining any type of experience cap as my character levels...instead having it feel from a numbers perspective to be a more constantly total rewarding progression.
I'm not saying I don't like caps, or hate them. I've asked for them...but really, I'd rather have a more steady progression then having that ability to grind being there. Honestly, I like NwN for the RP -AND- for the combat...sometimes I just want my PC to fight for whatever his motives are.
My two cents =)
