Epic Subraces
Take this term into consideration, when considering applying to play one of these races. They are in many ways stronger, and they have abilities not available to the standard races. But with that comes the fact that they also have challenges and drawbacks that the standard race would never have to deal with. What I'd like you to think about is this. Vampires and Werewolves are, by all rights, Epic Subraces. They're not here to make your current character stronger, faster, or even to progress them personally. In fact, in most cases you'll find that by taking this step, it actually hinders your progress. An Epic Subrace is meant to be a challenge. They're for the player who has run through the standard format, and is looking for something else to provide stimulation. Something harder. Like playing through your favorite video game on Normal difficulty, then replaying it again on Hard settings.
This is accomplished and maintained by two specific alterations to the format.
First the character, if already existing, will drop dramatically in levels. This is not something small, and a minor inconvenience. The character will drop almost 50% in levels, and there are no exceptions. This is for a multitude of reasons, including but not limited to:
-The Turning was a dramatic event. Life altering, or life ending, depending how to look at it.
-Your levels will represent your status as that creature, you are not "born" an ancient master, even if you were strong before. Your former life is, in most cases, over. You will probably never be as strong as you once were as a mortal, at least, not in the same sense.
Second, the character will receive the properties of that creature, by way of an item. Sometimes more than one. This item will take one of your equip slots permanently. There is no disputing over what item slot this ooc item will occupy, and there is no removing it. Though in some cases a second item will be used, as a weapon, for the creature attack ability. If you refuse to use it, you won't have the abilities of that creature during battle, it's that simple. Using something else constitutes as abuse of the subrace.
It's with these two additions to your gameplay that the challenge of an Epic Subrace is achieved. With great power comes great responsibility. You can be an evil bloodthirsty fiend, but you'll need to play smart, or you'll die. You'll also need to be willing to follow these rules of the subraces, or they will not be granted to you.
I'll now go into the rules and requirements that must be met for each Subrace.
Vampires
If you are a pre-existing character...
-You must send a request to Wicked Game or AcidZealot via PM over this forum.
-You must have a knowledge of vampire lore and myths.
-You must find a Sire who will be willing to turn you. There are currently two active vampire clans. The Animadverto's(Acid), and the Mondavi's(Wicked). All other clanless vampires are killed on sight. You may find the clans IC or OOC and RP the event upon approval for the Subrace.
-You must be willing to take a loss of approx. 50% of your current level
-You will be required to wear a belt of Vampiric Properties at all times. Belt slot is no longer available upon approval.
-You will be expected to understand the hardships that a fledgeling vampire will face, and realize that you may die. Permanently.
If you are a new character...
-Same applies, but you will be starting at level 1.
Werewolves
If you are a pre-existing character...
-You must send a request to Wicked Game or AcidZealot via PM over this forum.
-You must have a knowledge of werewolf lore and myths.
-You must find a werewolf who will be willing to turn you. There are no current werewolf packs known in Kymlun. Seek Acid or Wicked for DM assistance. You will RP the event upon approval for the Subrace.
-You must be willing to take a loss of approx. 50% of your current level
-You will be required to wear a belt of Inherent Werewolf Properties at all times. Belt slot is no longer available upon approval. You will also be given an Appearance Change item for shifting into a werewolf, and a FullWerewolf Properties Weapon to hold while shifted.
-You will be expected to understand the hardships that a young werewolf will face, whether they understand IC or not, and realize that you may die. Permanently.
If you are a new character...
-Same applies, but you will be starting at level 1.
If this seems too harsh, or too complicated to follow, then perhaps vampires and werewolves are not for you. These subraces are not for power, though they do have such. They're for RP, and to provide a challenge for the players who think they can handle such a commitment. If you have any questions regarding these rules, please feel free to ask for clarification.
