Okay so last night we did a full uninstall/ reinstall of Windows Vista (It was the only OS I could get for free, eventually Ill upgrade to 7) but anyway, none of my drivers were working so we took the time to install them one by one but even still my LAN driver or whatever I need to connect to the internet just isnt working. Any ideas? Let me know!

Well after talking to an Acer rep ive since found out that the virus that was on my computer infected the hardware not the software...so until I can pay to have them removed from my computer or buy a new computer, I will be quite MIA. Thanks for being my friends guys, Ill miss you while im gone.

O_O How does a virus that's a software infest hardware other than stay on your harddrive?

If you format, or delete everything then after its done with setup and does a reboot turn the computer OFF, do not let it reboot.

Or you just have the wrong driver version. Laptops are stupid and they will have like 5 versions of something.

Whats the full model number of your laptop? I might be able to get itS recovery disks and put them up for download. Recovery disks usually work the best for branded laptops.

A Virus cant target anything but software, they're bullshitting you. If you formatted your hard drive you should be fine.

For starters. Did the laptop come with a warranty?

For second...ers..
Do you have any tech friends you can man-handle into looking at the comp for you before you take it in?

It sounds to me like you're being plugged for money based solely on your limited experience with computers - as it's already been said - virus' can only attack software, not hardware.

My recommendation - get one of your friends to look at it and be present when you take it to get fixed.

Software is linked to hardware and vice versa in a system. The odds of a software virus being complex enough to damage hardware are small, but there have been known software viruses in the past that have been able to damage hardware through the overload of certain system commands making them repeat to the breaking point, some that may circle around still today.

Most get in your system through junk e-mail, don't open it and you'll be fine. And get some good anti-virus software :)
